Where to Find the Best Coffee on Maui
December 5, 2025
Hawaii's islands are home to some of the world's most celebrated beans, thanks to rich volcanic soil, high-elevation microclimates, and generations-old hand-harvesting traditions. Maui has its own thriving coffee culture, with local Maui coffee roasters producing exceptional small-batch beans and cafes serving everything from silky Maui espresso drinks to the best iced lattes on Maui. Whether you're searching for where to get coffee on Maui, Googling "coffee near me" on Maui during your stay, or planning the best breakfast and coffee stops before you arrive, this guide will help you sip your way across the island.
As a locally owned, family-operated company, we at Maui Resort Rentals love sharing insider recommendations and tipe with our guests. Our team is made up of longtime Hawaii residents who take pride in helping travelers experience the island in the most authentic way possible. From oceanfront resorts in Ka'anapali to luxury villas in Wailea, we aim to make every part of your Maui vacation seamless. And that seamless stay includes pointing you toward the Maui coffee shops and Maui cafes we love to visit, too.
Here's a look at the Maui coffee spots our team swears by, the ones we're always excited to share with visiting friends and Maui Resort Rentals guests. Enjoy!
Central Maui (Kahului and Wailuku)
Central Maui is often the first place visitors land, making it one of the easiest spots to grab great coffee before heading out to your accommodations from the airport or off on an island adventure. This area is home to several long-loved Maui coffee shops and local roasters, each offering something a little different —from artisan espresso to hearty breakfast-and-coffee pairings. Whether you're passing through Kahului from the airport or exploring historic Wailuku Town, these Maui cafes are definitely worth adding to your Maui to-do list.
Maui Coffee Roasters – Kahului
A staple in Maui's coffee scene for decades, Maui Coffee Roasters is known for its freshly roasted beans, friendly service, and wide selection of Hawaii-grown coffees. It's also become a quiet hub for remote workers and tech nomads, thanks to its spacious seating, reliable Wi-Fi, and laid-back atmosphere. Their bagel sandwiches are a local favorite and pair perfectly with a classic cold brew, single-origin pour-over, or one of their rotating seasonal roasts. Located just minutes from the airport, it's an easy and convenient first stop for travelers.
Momona Bakery and Coffee Shop – Kahului
As the current "talk of the town" coffee spot, Momona pairs excellent coffee with fresh pastries in a bright, relaxed atmosphere. Their espresso drinks are consistently smooth, and the pastry case is always full of tempting choices. Popular drinks include the vanilla latte, iced caramel latte, and their signature house espresso. It's a great cafe for breakfast before heading to the beaches of South or West Maui.
Wailuku Coffee Company – Wailuku
Wailuku Coffee Company brings a creative and community-centered vibe to historic Wailuku Town. This tried-and-true kind of spot is known for its hearty breakfast menu, colorful latte flavors, and rich Maui espresso. Try the Maui honey bee latte, flavored cold brew, or one of their breakfast bowls. It's a favorite among locals, artists, and visitors exploring the town's boutique shops and cultural sites.
Maui Coffee Attic – Wailuku
Maui Coffee Attic is a true local coffee shop with a laid-back Beatnik type of vibe. It's warm, welcoming, and deeply rooted in Wailuku's creative community. It has a strong neighborhood following, thanks to its cozy atmosphere, great espresso drinks, and a consistent lineup of live music throughout the week (even in the mornings!). Whether you're stopping in for a cappuccino, mocha, or a quiet moment before exploring the area, it offers one of the most authentic Maui specialty coffee experiences on the island.
South Maui (Kihei and Wailea)
Sunny South Maui is known for gorgeous beaches, relaxed resort towns, and an easygoing cafe culture that makes morning coffee runs especially enjoyable. Whether you're staying in Kihei or spending the day in Wailea, this part of the island has several Maui cafes that serve everything from bold Maui espresso to creative iced drinks and some of the best lattes Maui travelers rave about. Many spots here offer outdoor seating, breezy atmospheres, and quick access to the beach, perfect for starting your day with a kick of caffeine and ocean air.
Akamai Coffee Co. – Kihei and Wailea
Akamai has become a South Maui staple thanks to its high-quality beans, consistent quality, and stylish yet relaxed atmosphere. With locations in both Kihei and Wailea, it's easy to stop in no matter where your plans take you. Their mac nut latte is one of the most popular drinks on this side of the island, along with their perfectly balanced flat whites and refreshing iced lattes.
Kraken Coffee Maui – Kihei
Kraken Coffee is a fun and fast option for anyone craving great coffee on the go. This drive-through spot is known for bold flavors and creative drinks, but it can draw long lines during peak times—especially after the morning school drop-off rush or when beach days are starting. Top picks include the Kraken cold brew, flavored iced lattes, and their rotating seasonal specials. If you're searching for coffee in Kihei and don't mind a little wait, it's one of the liveliest and most convenient stops in town.
West Maui (Ka’anapali and Napili)
Glorious West Maui has its own rhythm in the mornings with a soft light over the water, people heading out for a walk on the beach path, and the smell of fresh coffee drifting from the small cafes and restaurants tucked throughout the resort communities. Many of us who live on this side of the island have our go-to spots depending on the day, and they're the same places we recommend to Maui Resort Rentals guests staying in Ka'anapali. Whether you want an ocean-view latte before a snorkel, a quiet neighborhood cafe in Napili, or a shop that really knows its beans, West Maui is full of local favorites that consistently serve some of the best coffee Maui has to offer.
Island Vintage Coffee – Whalers Village, Ka'anapali
Island Vintage Coffee is a favorite among visitors staying in Ka'anapali. Located in Whalers Village, it has a menu centered around high-quality Hawaiian-grown beans, including 100% Kona options. Their Hawaiian Latte is one of the most popular drinks on the west side, along with their smooth cold brew and refreshing acai bowls. With outdoor seating overlooking the beach path, it's a perfect place to start the morning or take a mid-day break. Island Vintage is a classy spot!
VigiLatte Artisan Coffee – Ka'anapali
VigiLatte brings a more artisan, third-wave coffee style to West Maui, focusing on precision brewing, quality beans, and beautiful latte art. Their straight espresso is exceptionally well-balanced, and the cortado and flat white are favorites among coffee purists. While the shop is on the smaller side, it's a standout for anyone looking for Maui specialty coffee without added flavors or frills. It's a perfect fit for guests seeking a high-quality morning coffee before wandering the Ka'anapali Beach Walk. Please note that their original location in Lahaina perished in the wildfires. You can now visit them in Ka’anapali.
Bad Ass Coffee – Across from Honokowai Beach Park
Bad Ass Coffee is a classic Hawaii brand known for its playful personality and rich, island-sourced beans. This location sits conveniently across the street from Honokowai Beach Park, making it an easy grab-and-go stop before a beach picnic, a walk along the shoreline, or a morning stand-up paddle. They serve everything from 100% Kona drip coffee to blended drinks and flavored lattes. The iced aloha latte is a standout on warm Maui mornings, and their specialty roasts make great souvenirs to take back home.
The Coffee Store Napili – Napili Plaza
The Coffee Store in Napili is one of West Maui's most beloved local shops, with a loyal following among residents and repeat visitors. It's not only known for its excellent coffee and homemade baked goods, but also for its impressive selection of whole-bean and freshly ground coffees. Here, you can pick up their signature 100% Maui-grown coffee as well as a variety of Kona coffees and blends that are ideal for enjoying during your stay or packing as gifts. Top drinks include classic espresso, creamy lattes, and rich mochas. Definitely stop here before exploring Napili Bay, Kapalua's trails, or the scenic drive north.
North Shore (Paia and Haiku)
Maui's North Shore has a different kind of morning rhythm that feels creative, unhurried, and full of character. This part of the island draws surfers, artists, and longtime locals, and the cafes here reflect that mix: eclectic menus, bold flavors, and relaxed spaces where you can sit for a while and take in the day. If you're exploring Paia's boutiques or heading into lush Haiku, these Maui cafes offer some of the most memorable coffee experiences on the island.
Paia Bay Coffee & Bar – Paia
Paia Bay Coffee & Bar is one of Paia's most versatile restaurants, serving breakfast, lunch, dinner, and a super popular happy hour. Their coffee menu features Oma Coffee, a Maui-grown roast known for its smooth, rich flavor and limited availability (you'll mostly find it in restaurants, not stores). Paia Bay pours it beautifully, whether you're ordering a morning latte or pairing it with their fresh breakfast dishes. The restaurant offers both indoor and outdoor seating, and on weekends, it often features themed brunches, such as Funk Brunch or Jazz Brunch, depending on the season. If brunch is part of your plans, it's smart to call ahead and reserve a table.
Colleen's at the Cannery – Haiku
Colleen's is a true Haiku institution and widely considered the most delicious coffee in the area. This is the place locals rely on for strong drip coffee, flavorful espresso drinks, and hearty breakfast plates that fuel the day ahead. It's relaxed, consistent, and deeply rooted in the community. If you're starting the drive toward Hana or spending time in Haiku, Colleen's is always a reliable and satisfying choice (breakfast, lunch, or dinner).
Baked on Maui – Haiku
Baked on Maui is a hidden gem tucked into the Haiku Cannery, known for excellent coffee, incredible pastries, and one of the best small-bakery atmospheres on the island. Seating is limited both inside and outside, but the quality makes it worth the stop. Their espresso drinks are delicious, and the pastry case is always full of fresh croissants, muffins, and specialty baked goods. Guests can also buy fresh bread or enjoy breakfast from the menu, which draws both locals and visitors who appreciate simple food done right.
Cafe des Amis – Paia
Cafe des Amis has a charm that feels perfectly Paia, with its laid-back, eclectic, and easy-to-love vibes. It's the kind of spot you wander into for a crepe or curry and end up lingering because the breezy courtyard is such a comfortable place to be. Their coffee stands out because they brew with Illy, the Italian espresso brand that's rarely found elsewhere on Maui. The flavor is rich, smooth, and great on its own or over ice. It's a lovely place for a mellow morning cup, but just as good for an afternoon iced coffee when you want to cool off, recharge, and get back on the road to explore more of the North Shore.
Upcountry Maui (Makawao, Pukalani, Kula, and Keokea)
Maui's Upcountry locales offer some of the island's most peaceful mornings with cool, fresh mountain air, sweeping views, and a slower, more rural rhythm that feels worlds away from the beach. This region is home to many of Maui's farms, including coffee growers, so it's no surprise that some of the island's best coffee shops are tucked into these hills. Whether you're wandering through Makawao's paniolo town, exploring the botanical gardens of Kula, or driving up to the Haleakala Visitors Center, these Maui cafes offer warm hospitality, strong coffee, and a yummy slice of local Upcountry life.
Espresso Mafia – Makawao
Espresso Mafia is a favorite among locals and coffee purists. This tiny Makawao espresso bar focuses on quality above all else, serving beautifully crafted drinks made with care and precision. Their straight espresso, macchiato, and cortado are especially popular, and the vibe is simple, friendly, and authentically Upcountry. It's a great quick stop before strolling Makawao's boutiques or heading further up the mountain. You’ll also find that Espresson Mafia is a popular spot for digital nomads.
Crema Maui (Crema Trolley) – Makawao
Crema's Maui is precisely what it sounds like. It's a charming little coffee trolley serving creative lattes, iced drinks, and consistently rich and tasty espresso. It's photogenic, fun, and full of personality. Their flavored lattes are among the most popular drinks, especially the seasonal specials locals look forward to. It's an easy stop while exploring Makawao Town and a great place to grab a drink before visiting the shops and art galleries.
Vida by Sip Me – Makawao
Vida by Sip Me is a beautiful, modern cafe with a welcoming atmosphere and plenty of space to settle in. Their lavender latte is a standout, but they also offer clean, simple espresso drinks and fresh baked goods. It's a relaxing spot for remote workers or anyone who wants a calm start to the day before exploring Upcountry. We’re big fans of Vida!
Marlow – Pukalani Shopping Center
Marlow is best known for its wood-fired sourdough pizzas at dinnertime, but early mornings here are a completely different experience. From 7 am to 11 am daily, the restaurant transforms into a bright and relaxed coffee spot serving a full range of morning drinks: macchiatos, cortados, cappuccinos, flat whites, lattes, Americanos, mochas, seasonal specialty lattes, chai, matcha, and assorted teas. The espresso is consistently strong, and if you arrive early enough, you might catch a slice of their quiche before it sells out. It's a welcoming place to settle in for a quiet morning and a great starting point for a day of exploring Upcountry.
La Provence – Kula
La Provence brings a touch of French countryside charm to Upcountry, with a peaceful garden setting and sweeping mountain views. Their croissants are outstanding, but many visitors come specifically for the eggs Benedict, which is one of the best on the island. Coffee is strong and simple, complementing the bakery items beautifully. Weekend mornings can get very busy, so arriving early is the best way to enjoy the calm atmosphere and secure a table.
Grandma's Coffee House – Keokea
Set in the quiet, sometimes misty community of Keokea, Grandma's Coffee House is an Upcountry treasure. They roast their Kula-grown beans onsite, producing some of the freshest and most flavorful drip coffee you'll find on Maui. But it's the baked goods that continue to make this place so unforgettable, with warm banana bread, pumpkin bread, cinnamon rolls, and other house-baked treats that sell out quickly on busy mornings. The breakfast menu is big and full of local and American classics, making it a perfect stop before a day of exploring Kula. With its cool elevation and homestyle charm, Grandma's feels like stepping into old Hawaii.
Whether you're staying on the beach in Ka'anapali, relaxing in Wailea, or exploring the quiet backroads of Upcountry Maui, Maui has a coffee experience for every traveler. From locally roasted beans to ocean-view lattes, slow mornings in Paia, and the cool mountain air of Kula, these spots offer more than just caffeine. They're part of what makes each day on Maui feel special!
