All About Marriott Maui Ocean Club
The Marriott Maui Ocean Club is ideally located in the heart of Kaʻanapali Beach along the famous Kaʻanapali Beachwalk. It is right next to Kaʻanapali Point and mere minutes from the shops and restaurants of Whalers Village.
The Kaʻanapali Marriott has been a longstanding Maui favorite since it originally opened as a Marriott hotel back in the early 1980s. During the early 2000s, the hotel underwent a major renovation, and the hotel rooms were all converted into one- and two-bedroom suites and sold as deeded timeshare weeks.
After the original suites sold out, Marriott expanded south of the original building and built the Lahaina Tower in 2007. The Lahaina Tower sits next to the Hyatt Kaʻanapali Resort on the oceanfront property where the original Marriott parking garage was located. It was the first new construction in the heart of Kaʻanapali Beach in over 20 years. The Lahaina Tower features 12 oceanfront three-bedroom luxury villas and around 60 two-bedroom luxury villas. Many of the villas can be separated into studio and one-bedroom villas.
Two years after the Lahaina Tower opened, the Marriott opened a second tower north of the original building. This tower is called the Napili Tower, and it sits where the oceanfront tennis courts once were between the Marriott’s original building and the Kaʻanapali Aliʻi. The Napili Tower features 10 oceanfront three-bedroom luxury villas and around 60 two-bedroom villas.
Those familiar with Marriott’s Maui Ocean Club typically refer to the suites in the original building as “the suites” and the villas in the two new towers as “the villas.”
The suites in the original building have undergone a number of renovations and updates since they were first sold in the early 2000s, with the most recent renovations taking place in the fall of 2016. All one- and two-bedroom suites in the Maui Ocean Club original building feature a kitchenette with a small dishwasher, microwave, coffeemaker, toaster, and a sink, and the recent addition of new apartment-sized refrigerators to replace the original mini fridges. The one-bedroom suites are roughly 800 sq ft and feature a king-size bed in the primary bedroom and a queen-size convertible sofa sleeper in the living room. The two-bedroom suites are roughly 1200 sq ft and feature a king-size bed in the primary bedroom, a queen-size convertible sofa sleeper in the living room, and a king-size bed and a queen-size pullout in the guest bedroom (commonly known as a lock-off).
The views for the suites are island view (second and third floor locations looking directly back towards the West Maui Mountains), mountain/garden view (generally overlooking the manicured resort area and frequently with partial ocean views), oceanview, and oceanfront. All of the oceanview suites in the original Maui Ocean Club building overlook one of the pools as well as the Pacific Ocean.
One notable difference from a traditional one-bedroom villa is that the one-bedroom suites in the Marriott’s original building feature two full bathrooms. The bathrooms have luxurious granite vanities and tiled tub-showers. The two-bedroom suites feature three full bathrooms. The suites in the original Marriott building can also be locked off into studios, and these studios feature a king-size bed, a queen-size convertible sofa sleeper, and a very small kitchenette with a mini fridge, microwave, toaster, and a coffeemaker. For guests not requiring a full kitchen or a washer/dryer, the suites provide something more akin to a typical upscale hotel suite. All of the Maui Ocean Club residences have the same decor and furnishings, and the floor plans are nearly identical. For those staying in the suites who wish to cook, there is a shared kitchen in the lobby area in addition to the BBQ grills throughout the property.
The villas in the Lahaina and Napili Towers are similar in size to the suites in the original building, but the notable difference is that the new villas feature full kitchens and washer/dryers in the villa. The furnishings and decor in the villas are also different than that in the suites, but the decor in both towers is identical from villa to villa.
The two-bedroom villas at the Maui Ocean Club are roughly 1200 sq ft. They have a king-size bed in the primary bedroom and a queen-size convertible sofa sleeper in the living room. The primary bathroom features a glass walk-in shower, a spa soaking tub, and separate vanities. The full kitchen features granite countertops and stainless steel appliances and comes fully equipped with all the necessary cookware and utensils. The guest bedroom in the two-bedroom villa is around 400 sq ft and has a king-size bed as well as a queen convertible sofa sleeper, so the entire two-bedroom villa can accommodate up to eight guests. The entire villa is accented with African Mahogany crown molding. It should also be mentioned that the Marriott Maui Ocean Club can provide rollaways to guests at no additional charge. Guests also have the option of occupying the one-bedroom piece of the two-bedroom villa.
There are only 22 three-bedroom villas at the Marriott Maui Ocean Club, and all 22 of them occupy prime oceanfront real estate with some of the absolute best views on Kaʻanapali Beach. There are 12 villas in the Lahaina Tower, and 10 villas in the Napili Tower. The three-bedroom villas feature roughly 1700-1800 sq ft and come with full kitchens, washer/dryers, expansive open floor plans with ocean views from most vantage points, and larger lanais than any other residence at the Maui Ocean Club. The three-bedroom villas have a king-size bed in the primary bedroom, a queen-size convertible sofa sleeper in the living room, a king-size bed and a queen-size pullout in the first guest bedroom, and two full-size beds in the second guest bedroom. In total, the three-bedroom villa has sleeping capacity for up to 12 guests. The primary bedroom in the three-bedroom has a glass walk-in shower, an air bubble soaking tub, and dual vanities. The two guest bathrooms are each full bathrooms with combination shower/bathtubs and granite vanities. The three-bedroom villas at the Marriott have such a stellar vantage point that in the higher floor villas, guests can see the ocean from virtually everywhere inside the villa, including the glass shower.
The Marriott has two types of ownership classification, floating and fixed. All of the suites are floating, the two-bedroom villas are a mixture of both, and the three-bedroom villas are all fixed. When guests reserve a floating residence, they are essentially guaranteeing themselves a view category and a size/type, with the exact location determined at check-in. The floating suites and villas at the Marriott are similar to booking a hotel in this regard. The Marriott also has some fixed-week/fixed-unit ownership. When guests reserve a fixed week/fixed unit, they know exactly what villa they will be occupying before they check in. All of the three-bedroom villas at the Marriott are fixed, and a portion of the two-bedroom oceanfront villas are fixed. Please contact us if you have a specific week in mind, and we may be able to share where the residence will be located within the building. If you are inquiring about a three-bedroom residence, we will be able to confirm its location.
The Marriott Maui Ocean Club resort has two lagoon-style pools (one by each tower) and an impressive 3.5-acre super-pool with waterfalls and a waterslide in the main center area. There is a famous pirate ship area for the kids. There are numerous grills and hot tubs spread throughout the property. All guests enjoy a mid-week tidy service, pool towel service, a fitness center, and a full-service concierge desk. The Marriott Maui Ocean Club includes three restaurants serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and food and drinks are available at the pool or the grass area in front of the resort.
World-class shopping and dining at Whalers Village is just a 10-minute walk up the beach path, and there are countless opportunities for fun and adventure right along the beach, including snorkel charters, sunset sails, surf lessons, parasailing in the summer, and luaus. The Marriott Maui Ocean Club is only 15 minutes from Kapalua with its world-famous golf courses. Even closer to the resort are the two golf courses of the Kaanapali Resort, the Royal and the Kaʻanapali Kai.
Marriott’s Maui Ocean Club is a fantastic choice for vacationers who value the space and convenience of a luxury villa or suite, but who desire the amenities and atmosphere of a luxury resort. The location in the heart of Kaʻanapali Beach is fantastic, and the views and suite quality are some of the best on Maui.
