All About Honua Kai Resort and Spa by Maui Resort Rentals

Located on the shores of tranquil Kaʻanapali North Beach, Honua Kai Resort and Spa is one of the newest luxury resorts on the island of Maui, and Maui Resort Rentals is one of the premier private managers of Honua Kai Rentals.

Previously voted one of the Top 10 Resorts in Hawaii by the Condé Nast Readers’ Choice Awards, Honua Kai has quickly become a favorite among discerning travelers because it affords the amenities and atmosphere of a true world-class resort, while providing the spaciousness and convenience of staying in a luxury condo. The property is comprised of two adjacent towers - Hokulani to the south and Konea to the north. The interiors, furnishings, and floor plans are nearly identical between the two towers, although each lobby and courtyard area has a slightly different feel.

One of the benefits of Honua Kai is that there is a wide range of suite types and sizes available for vacation rental. Honua Kai features studios ranging from 583 sq ft to 615 sq ft. There are four columns of studios in each tower, and all of the studios at Honua Kai have interior courtyard locations. Most studios have ocean views, with the amount of visible ocean increasing as you go above the 4th floor. All of the studios feature a king-size bed, a full kitchen with a washer and dryer, a queen-size sofa sleeper, and a lanai of around 100 sq ft – large enough for a dining table and chairs, plus an additional lounge chair.

The one-bedroom suites at Honua Kai range from 615 sq ft to 780 sq ft. They all feature a king-size bed in the primary bedroom, a full kitchen with a washer and dryer, a queen-size sofa sleeper in the living room, and a lanai of around 150 sq ft, which has a dining table and chairs, plus an additional lounge chair. The vast majority of the one bedrooms at Honua Kai are in exterior tower locations, but there is one column of interior one bedrooms in the Hokulani Tower, the "13" stack. While the developers of Honua Kai did not give the one-bedroom suites the most spectacular ocean views at the resort, many of them do have pleasant ocean views in addition to views of the West Maui Mountains, which can often magically light up at sunset.

The Honua Kai Resort also features a limited number of suites that were originally sold as one-bedroom suites with adjoining dens. Many of these dens have been converted into bedrooms so that these suites now have two bedrooms and one bathroom. Several of these are in the Hokulani Tower, but most are located in the Konea Tower. These suites are around 950 sq ft, and their lanais are typically around 180 sq ft. For value-minded families who prefer two separate bedrooms and additional space, these suites can be an excellent choice.

The true two-bedroom suites at the Honua Kai Resort range from 1080 to 1620 sq ft. They all feature a king-size bed in each bedroom and a queen-size sofa sleeper in the living room. In addition, the king-size bed in the guest bedroom can be split into two twin-size beds for added flexibility. The bathrooms typically have dual granite vanities, glass walk-in showers, and separate soaking tubs. All of the two-bedroom suites have full kitchens and a washer and dryer. The majority of the two-bedroom lanais are quite generous, at around 200 sq ft, but they range in size from 100 sq ft up to 505 sq ft.

The fit and finish of the three bedrooms at Honua Kai is a cut above the rest - featuring Viking appliances, in-counter wine chillers, luxurious tile flooring, and opulently outfitted kitchens and bathrooms. These units are around 1600 sq ft and offer three full bathrooms. One of the unique features of this category is that all three bedrooms directly face the ocean. Some of the three-bedroom oceanfront residences have approximately 2200 sq ft of interior living space with an additional 550+ sq ft of outdoor lanai space. They all feature three full bathrooms with glass walk-in showers and separate soaking tubs. These residences also feature Viking BBQ grills and a kitchenette on the lanai.

Located on the shores of tranquil Kahekili Beach, north of Kaʻanapali, the Honua Kai Resort and Spa combines luxury and convenience for easy access to shopping and oceanfront views.

The Honua Kai Resort and Spa property is nestled on 38 well-manicured beachfront acres and is home to four separate swimming pools with waterfalls, four hot tubs, a spa, a beachfront restaurant, a modern fitness center, several BBQs, and a gourmet market. The main pool is located in the Hokulani Tower courtyard and has an infinity edge, making for fantastic sunset photo opportunities. There is a second meandering lagoon-style pool stretching between the two towers and a third, more tranquil pool meant purely for relaxation. In addition, the resort boasts an impressive waterslide for the young at heart as well as a children’s play area with sand and fountains. Poolside food and drink service is available from Duke's Beach House, located on the property.

Duke’s Beach House is a restaurant, named after the famous Hawaiian Surfer Duke Kahanamoku, that occupies a prime beachfront location and specializes in Hawaiian-inspired variations of classic steak and seafood dishes. Duke’s makes it a point to use locally sourced produce and freshly caught fish. All three meals are offered, and food is served between 7:30 am and 9:30 pm.

The on-site Ho’ola spa offers a variety of services inspired by the local culture and geography. The spa uses Malie Organics products exclusively and has been the recipient of a number of local awards and accolades.

Although Honua Kai offers everything that you need for a terrific Hawaiian vacation, the resort’s ideal location between Lahaina and Kapalua means that an incredible variety of shops, restaurants, beaches, and activities are within a short drive. Many activities are within a short distance of the resort, such as luaus, snorkel trips, sunset cruises, zip line tours, surf lessons, horseback riding tours, whale watching tours in the winter, or parasailing in the summer. There are even more options beyond West Maui.

Honua Kai Resort and Spa is truly one of Maui’s gems, offering luxurious accommodations, a great resort atmosphere, and a fantastic beachfront location. As one of the premier private managers of Honua Kai Rentals, Maui Resort Rentals would love to assist you in creating your next incredible Maui vacation. Our 8000 sq ft of office and warehouse space is located directly across the street from Honua Kai, so we are perfectly poised to make your stay at Honua Kai memorable.
